Barnabus Trapped by WonderDookie Barnabus Trapped by WonderDookie
This is my entry to the "Dark Shadows" "contest" that deviantArt is hosting. Though I am an American resident, I do not currently reside in America - so sadly my entry can never win.

If you want to see WAY more detail than necessary, please zoom in. It's like using a magnifying glass to analyze the pores and wrinkles of an actress that you once found attractive.

Thank you much! I was originally going to have a little word balloon until my wife pointed out the breath fog. I think that was an excellent suggestion!

hahaha. Exactly! I sometimes wonder whether Tim Burton has some kind of dirt on him. That's the only explanation I can think of for that Mad Hatter role.

To be honest, upon seeing the movie, I actually liked him as the Mad Hatter- but seeing the design for the first time, I was like this: :iconeddiebawplz:

Probably; maybe it's because most of his filmography is with Burton, so maybe he feels like Depp owes him (he's the godfather of Burton's children BTW) :XD:

I personally really didn't like that movie. I found the relationship between him and Alice a bit creepy, and it seemed like his accent was in a constant state of flux. It seemed strange that they tried to turn the hatter into some kind of tragic hero too. It made it so he lost a lot of that abstract spontaneous wackiness that he had in the original animated film. I know I'm a bit of a curmudgeon about that kind of stuff though. What was it that you liked about the character?

haha. That's funny. It does seem like Depp always leaves a really positive impression on whoever he works with. That seems like layers of godfatherism too.

It was an okay movie as far as Tim Burton's newer movies go for me (still better than-*shudders*- the "Planet of the Apes" remake he did). Personally, I liked how seriously he took the role and how genuinely crazy he acted (not sure, but I think him switching between voices when he's calm and mad was intentional). I also liked his mannerisms- acting like a demented gentlemen, but having a dark side that you have to walk upon eggshells to avoid seeing.

Since you brought it up, to be honest, I didn't care for the old animated one: everybody in Wonderland came off as crazy a-holes who eff with poor Alice constantly to me (although, that's how the characters acted in the original stories) :XD:

He seems like a pretty down-to-earth/nice guy as some actors/actresses mention in those making-of specials. Just thinking about it, but "Rango" was a great recent movie with Depp =D

Ahh! I think you've found the root of it. I've really liked the original story and especially liked the old Disney animation!

Am I detecting sarcasm or do you actually think I hit the root of it? :cough:

Oh no. No sarcasm. I think that is the reason. I really liked the original stories, so when Burton came along and changed it so much, I found it a bit insulting. If you didn't like them very much, then you probably didn't mind that he changed it.

Yup. You have to be an American living in America (no expats). That's what it said in the contest rules anyway.

haha. Glad I could save you some hassle.

haha. Thank you! I didn't look at many of the other entries yet. It does seem like a lot of them are pretty directly based off of the production stills though.
