For the last week I've been doing simple caricatures of the US Presidents as a way to unwind a bit. Today I just realised that it's only 22 weeks until the election, and there have been 44 presidents. I'm going to challenge myself to chronologically draw two presidents a week until November - Starting with number 1 - George Washington.

I'm hoping this will be a bit of a history lesson for myself as well. I can name from presidents 1-7 and 35-44, but everything in between is a bit muddled (except for #16 of course).

One day I will come for your caricature throne, Dooks. That day is NOT today by any means, so you may rest for now. I hardly even know how to spell it without cheating! Surely, this is where you learned to master proportions, eh? I burn with envy when I look upon these beautiful president faces! Well done, Dooks.

How will the crown be passed? Will it be a sneaking poisoning, or a battle royale?

I haven't really seen any of your caricature stuff yet. You should post some.

I haven't posted any caricatures because I don't draw them! It looks like the best way to help me with character consistency, so I may have to bust the cherry sooner or later...

I hadn't thought of it that way. It probably does help a bit with consistency. I think it helps a lot of character designs too.

I like how his rosy cheeks look almost like scratches. I think that's more realistic than a block of pink.
Nice font for the url, by the way. I noticed it changes to suit whatever illustration you're submitting.

Good observation my dear. I'm glad you wrote this before I added the pink as a round block.

I did caricatures of all the presidents last year. I need to post them on here. It was a fun challenge as you're forced to draw/caricature faces you might not necessarily choose yourself. It makes a nice set, so I look forward to seeing you continue the series.

I saw the one you did of George Washington! It looks really good. You should definitely post the rest of them. Did you do all 44?

I've actually been continuing the series (I'm up to Andrew Jackson now), but I've just been posting them on my blog. My gallery on here is already embarrassingly large enough. haha.

Yep, I did get through all of them. I found they became easier once I got past the presidents that had paintings as their portraits. The painted ones are so idealized, and that early era of photography is really great for caricature.

I have them all online on my flickr page here:

I'm happy with most of them. Some it would be nice to revisit sometime. I'll have to check out your blog!

Wow! Nice. Those turned out really good. It has definitely made me realize that i have a ways to go on my own series (I've only just finished Van Buren).

I especially like your version of Carter. Those nightmarish lips! haha.
