History Repeating

Argh. Needless to say I'm not pleased with the current administration, especially after everything that happened in New Orleans. Usually I'm able to repress my anger at the president enough that I don't need to do an art piece about it, but everything I read just compounds my disappointment. For instance, did you know that Bush cut funding for levee upgrades so he could give tax breaks to the wealthiest people in the country? Yay!

On the day that the hurricane hit New Orleans Bush was at a pro war rally, and backstage was awarded a guitar that he proceeded to mime playing. When the city of Rome burned in the year 64 the emporer/tyrant Nero played his lyre. Anyway, I thought it was a striking analogy, so I did a drawing of it. I used the picture from when he was awarded the guitar, and used the cover of a book about Nero for the general layout of the drawing.

Here's an interesting tid-bit of information. Later in life Nero was banished by the senate and subsequently commited suicide by stabbing himself in the neck.

Well... a guy can dream can't he?
