Polyphemus the Shepherd by WonderDookie Polyphemus the Shepherd by WonderDookie
The cyclops Polyphemus from The Odyssey tending his flock.

I once read that the Greeks based the cyclopes off of elephant skulls, so I wanted to show a bit of the elephant influence in my design.

You're right about the elephant-cyclops relationship and it's so cute XD

Yeah, you can really see it when you look at an elephant skull too. That'd be really confusing to see out of context.

haha. Thanks man! I thought it would be funny to juxtapose them with the big ugly looking cyclops. Unfortunately they also sort of look like an afterthought (which they really were...)

haha. Yeah. It's pretty cycloptic. I saw a mold of one at a zoo when I was a kid. It was almost creepy.

His flock of two sheep. That's a big responsibility. I know you want to have sheep, Polyphemus, but you realize that you're going to have to take care of them, right? Let's start you off with two.

Well he's obviously not the sharpest tack. This is really all he can be trusted with. And all that I could be bothered to draw.

He does look a bit mastodon-esque. Great job!

Poor Polyphemus... He was tricked by Nohbdy.

haha. Yeah. All of those old stories are so bizarre. It's funny that they are considered classically witty, but by today's standards it would just be considered kind of silly and stupid.

Oh the days when you could outwit a cyclops by calling yourself nobody.

That's clever. I also read that elephant skulls inspired legends of cyclopses. I've been pondering doing a picture based on that idea!

You're really playing around with different styles & texures looks good. I really like his floppy, mini elephant ears & of course those big boosies of his. The little sheep are a cute addition & I really like your background, especially the cave, reminds me a bit of your paperwork art as it almost looks 3D.

haha. Yeah, I thought it was funny that the cyclops would go out to tend his sheep during the day, and return in the evening to murder people. Sort of seems like a contradiction. So I wanted to include those sheep in there.

Thank you much! Glad you like it. I'm definitely having fun playing around with styles and stuff.
